Ah, el verano. Esa maravillosa época del año en que la palidez, la monotonía y el frío se borran como húmedas huellas en la orilla del mar.

Parece idílico, pero al igual que todo aquello que parece demasiado bueno para ser verdad, es una mera ilusión. Sin entrar en detalles meteorológicos como las altas temperaturas capaces de hacernos lucir como el hermano deshidratado de Tutankamon, uno de los claros inconvenientes que pasar largas horas bajo la calidez solar son las quemaduras, cuyas repercusiones oscilan desde la descamación cutánea hasta el cáncer de piel. Viniendo de una persona que a pesar de no aplicarse, sino en adueñarse, en crema solar, sigue volviendo a encontrarse la misma imagen recurrente de un crustáceo en el espejo tras cada fútil intento de broncearse, os diré que no solamente es muy probable que el protector de sol no sea suficiente por si solo para respaldar vuestra dermis, sino que es casi un hecho consolidado.

Todos hemos visto esos terroríficamente anuncios televisivos en que una serie de personas son expuestas a un examen de luz ultravioleta cual les hace perecer un dálmata más que un ser humano debido a su gran cantidad de manchas. En un principio estos tienen el efecto deseado sobre el público, haciéndonos cuestionarnos si debajo de ese color “almendra de California ligeramente tostada” (o para los más dramáticos “café importado de Brazil cortito de leche”) también nos asemejamos a lo que podría ser la próxima víctima de Cruella de Vil. Aunque la triste realidad es que momentos después la alarma inicial se esfuma volviéndonos a dejar a solas con nuestro complejo de bacon pasado vuelta y vuelta por la sartén (o la hamaca).

Pero siento tener que comunicaros que estamos más cerca de lo que parece de poseer ese preocupante aspecto que el equipo de marketing de Nivea utiliza para vendernos sus productos. No obstante, no son todo malas noticias, hay formas de conseguir la fachada deseada este estío sin renunciar a ir a la moda. Particularmente, yo lo he bautizado como la mentalidad bucket (cubo, en español).

Anticipándome a lo que potencialmente ronda vuestra cabeza, no, no voy a hablaros ni de barreños ni del insigne “Ice bucket challenge” que logró personas de todo el mundo se grabasen a sí mismas vertiendo agua congelada sobre sus cabezas. Ahora bien, en primer lugar, tenemos los bucket hats (conocidos como gorros de pescador), los cuales desde su creación a inicios del siglo XX han adoptado distintos y variopintos propósitos, sirviendo desde accesorio para los granjeros y pescadores irlandeses, uniforme bélico en Vietnam hasta emblema del movimiento hip-hop en la comunidad negra de los años ochenta. Tras haber originado una buena porción de polémica estética, que justifica su tardanza para obtener su actual auge de popularidad, a día de hoy son el gorro imprescindible para escudar tanto el cuero cabelludo como el rostro de las rojeces mientras se causa sensación.

Teniendo en cuenta que hablamos de cubos y su respectivo vínculo con los meses de julio y agosto, la primera conexión neuronal serán aquellos espléndidos castillos de arena erigidos durante los veranos de nuestra niñez, sin embargo no es esa precisamente la nostalgia que trato de evocar, sino aquella provocada por los bolsos tipo… sí, lo habéis adivinado: ¡Bucket! Fueron tendencia hace aproximadamente diez años, y una vez más su silueta cilíndrica, capaz de almacenar todos los esenciales necesitados para un día en la costa o un paseo vespertino por la ciudad, vuelve a lo alto de la cúspide, ya no hay excusa para dejar la crema de sol en casa.

Ahora que estamos equipados hasta la coronilla (literalmente) para disfrutar de la temporada estival, podemos lanzarnos a la piscina y sumergirnos en nuestros planes más anticipados, para los que todavía unos queda un último “cubo” bajo la manga: Bucket lists (listas de deseos). Aunque no soy partidario de la presión que produce establecer una fecha de caducidad para las actividades que ansiamos realizar y que únicamente deberían tener como finalidad nuestro deleite personal, admitiré que encuentro agradable poder organizar mis planes de modo que el caos no me engulla. Por lo que si queréis alcanzar un número determinado de metas antes de que septiembre vuelva a darnos cazas, os recomiendo que cojáis vuestra agenda, programéis vuestras intenciones vacacionales,cojáis vuestros “cubos” y os lancéis a la aventura.

Coming from a person who, does not apply, but bathes in sun cream, but still continues to find the same recurring image of a crustacean in the mirror after each futile attempt of tanning, I will tell you that not only is it very likely that sunscreen is not enough by itself to support your skin, but it is almost an established fact.

Taking into account that we are talking about buckets and their respective link with the months of July and August, the first neural connection will be those splendid sand castles erected during the summers of our childhood, however that is not precisely the nostalgia that I am trying to evoke, but the one caused by the type of bags acclaimed as… yes, you guessed it: Bucket! They were a trend about ten years ago, and once again their cylindrical silhouette, capable of storing all the essentials needed for a day on the coast or an afternoon stroll through the city, is back at the top of the pinnacle, there is no longer an excuse to leave sun cream at home.

Now that we are equipped to the crown (literally) to enjoy the summer season, we can jump into the pool and immerse ourselves in our most anticipated objectives, for which some still have one last “bucket” left up their sleeve: Bucket lists. Although I am not a fan of the pressure that comes with setting an expiration date on activities that we look forward to doing and that should only be for our personal delight, I will admit that I find it nice to be able to organize my plans in such a way that I am not swallowed up by chaos. So if you want to achieve a certain number of goals before September hunts us down again, I recommend that you take your agenda, program your vacation intentions, take your “buckets” and dive into the adventure.
