Chronicles of the Met Gala: Chapter V.

Regreso al futuro:

Lo prometido es deuda, y por tanto, aquí me hayo compensando el acuerdo formulado en la anterior entrada. Tras un exhaustivo análisis sobre la temática, podemos proceder a evaluar con el mismo escrutinio los atuendos lucidos en la alfombra roja de “los Oscars de la moda”.

Las galas portadas por algunas de los personajes más emblemáticos de la industria han despertado grandes interrogantes en el público, pero a diferencia de las cuestiones discutidas la semana pasada que únicamente podrán ser respondidas por el paso del tiempo, estas si pueden encontrar contestaciones en el presente inmediato (aunque para ello se requiere cierto trabajo informativo). Como aprendimos en el artículo pasado, el código de vestimenta de la Met Gala 2022 ha sido glamour dorado, en referencia al siglo de oro estadounidense, y al igual que no presento reticencia alguna a la hora de censurar cualquier catástrofe estilística, he de confesar que el desempeño mostrado en los trajes de la noche me han valido una grata sorpresa.

En un principio hay muchos de los atuendos que parecen no estar sincronizados con la pomposidad del siglo XIX, pero una vez se les dedica una mirada más detenida, podemos descubrir como en verdad disponen de diversos detalles que sirven de nexo entre ambas épocas, lo cual es siempre una de las iniciativas principales del evento: unir un determinado tópico con lo que constituye el ahora. Pongamos por ejemplo el atuendo de Irina Shayk, el look de Burberry de la modelo completamente negro ha sido descrito como poco afín a la temática, pero en verdad cuando uno va más allá de las primeras impresiones descubrirá como en este se fusionan normas de vestimenta en la época tanto de hombres (una corbata) como de mujeres (un corpiño) a la vez que recurre a una de las tendencias más imperiosas del año: el cuero.

Una de las preguntas que me acechan desde el visionado del despliegue dado ante las cámaras, es a qué se debe la considerable cantidad de vestidos blancos tipo nupciales lucidos en este. Sin duda alguna, la versión mini de Louis Vuitton inspirada en las flappers propias de 1920 que vistió Emma Stone es el claro acento del “sí, quiero”, y es que sin ir más lejos la actriz lo ha desempolvado del archivo de su propia boda, pues en 2020 este fue su ajuar para la fiesta post ceremonial de su gran día.

Entre otras novias de la noche acreditamos a Kylie Jenner en Off-White, Rosalía en Givenchy, Julianne Moore en de la Renta, Hailey Bieber en Saint Laurent, o mis preferidos personales: Sidney Sweeney en Tory Burch y Eiza González en Michael Kors.

Pero, la confusión reside en la imposibilidad de hallar un conector entre las bodas y el glamour dorado; lo cual no tiene otra explicación salvo que no la hay. Simplemente este conjunto de celebridades han optado por no darle a sus estilismos una brisa victoriana; claro ejemplo es la menor del clan Kardashian-Jenner, que ha optado por invocar a la más urbanas de las desposadas para rendir homenaje a la comedia romántica “Novia a la fuga” de Julia Roberts, se ve claramente como esta vestimenta se relaciona con la cinematografía americana pero no con el periodo que ha sido escogido por el equipo directivo para recrear, desde luego habría sido mucho más apropiado para “En America: un léxico de la moda” que para la versión de la exposición basada en una antología histórica.

Novia a la fuga

Otro de los colores que ha reinado en la celebración ha sido el rosa fucsia, (lo cual era de esperar) ya que ha sido designado como la tonalidad estrella de la temporada, podemos encontrarla en celebridades desde Glenn Close en Valentino, Anok Yai en Michael Kors, hasta Sebastian Stan también en Valentino.

Ahora bien, la duda del millón se reduce a quiénes se encuentran en el podio de los mejores vestidos y quiénes deberán sufrir la condena de la vergüenza. Obviamente, Blake Lively nos ha dado un año más el más perfecto de los atavíos en Atelier Versace, la actriz que este año ha figurado junto a su esposo (Ryan Reynolds) en el comité de la gala, nos ha demostrado con su vestido desmontable que ella nunca decepciona.

Thomas Dockery se merece una ronda de aplausos por cumplir con creces las expectivas de la moda masculina con su traje pastel de Dior, un balance perfecto de energías ha dado como resultado un atuendo viril con connotaciones andróginas que demuestra que quien no apuesta no gana.

Por otro lado, el actor de: Ha nacido una estrella, Bradley Cooper, se ha presentado de nuevo con un esmoquin negro de Louis Vuitton, al fin y al cabo uno pensaría que con un valor neto de 100 millones de dólares, el actor podría permitirse una visita al centro comercial.

Por último, y muy a mi pesar, he de confesar que Emma Corrin en Miu Miu ha sido mi gran decepción de la velada, parece ser que se ha equivocado de siglo puesto que en vez de vestir acorde con la fecha, parecía un colono recién salido del Mayflower.

A promise is a promise, and therefore here I am, compensating for the agreement made in the previous post. After an exhaustive analysis of the subject, we can proceed to evaluate with the same scrutiny the outfits worn on the red carpet of "the fashion Oscars".

The gowns worn by some of the most emblematic characters in the industry have raised great inquiries in the public, but unlike the interrogations discussed last week that will only be answered over time, these can find responses in the immediate present, although for this some informative work is required. As we learned in the last article, the dress code of the Met Gala 2022 has been gilded glamour, in reference to the American golden age, and just as I have no reticence when it comes to censoring any stylistic catastrophe, I must confess that the performance shown in the night suits have earned me a pleasant surprise.

At first there are many of the outfits that seem to be out of sync with the pomposity of the nineteenth century, but once a closer look is given to them, we can discover how they actually have various details that serve as a link between both eras, which is always one of the main initiatives of the event: to unite a certain topic with todays envisioning. Let's take for example Irina Shayk's outfit, the Burberry model's all-black look has been described as having little affinity to the theme, but in truth when one goes beyond first impressions will discover how this presents merging of clothing norms from both men (a tie) and women (a corset) from the time, while resorting to one of the most important trends of the year: leather.

One of the questions that haunts me since the viewing of the display given before the cameras, is what is the reason for the considerable number of white bridal type dresses worn in it. Without a doubt, the mini version of Louis Vuitton inspired by the flappers of 1920s that Emma Stone wore, is the vivid personification of saying “I do”, and that is because, without going any further, the actress has dusted it off from her personal wedding archive , as in 2020 this was her trousseau for the afterparty of her big day.

But, the confusion lies in the impossibility of finding a connector between weddings and gilded glamour; which has no other explanation except that there is not, simply this set of celebrities have chosen not to give their outfits a Victorian breeze; A clear example is the youngest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan who has chosen to invoke the most urban of the brides to pay homage to the romantic comedy "Runaway Bride" by Julia Roberts, I see how this dress is related to American cinematography but not with the period that has been chosen by the management team to recreate, it certainly would have been much more appropriate for “In America: A Lexicon of fashion” than for the version of the exhibition based on a historical anthology.

Runaway bride

Another of the colors that has reigned in the celebration has been fuchsia, which was to be expected since it has been designated as the staring shade of the season, we can find it on celebrities from Glenn Close in Valentino, Anok Yai in Michael Kors, to Sebastian Stan also in Valentino.

Now, the million dollar question comes down to who is on the podium of the best dressed and who will have to suffer the sentence of shame. Obviously, Blake Lively has given us one more year the most perfect of the outfits in Atelier Versace, the actress who this year has been with her husband (Ryan Reynolds) a part of the galas committee, has shown us with her detachable dress that she never disappoints.

Thomas Dockery deserves a round of applause for exceeding the expectations of men's fashion with his Dior pastel suit, a perfect balance of energies has resulted in a virile outfit with androgynous connotations that shows that who does not risk does not win.

On the other hand, A Star Is Born protagonist, Bradley Cooper, has stepped out again in a black Louis Vuitton tuxedo, after all, one would think that with a net worth of $100 million the actor could afford a visit to the mall.

To conclude, and much to my regret, I have to confess that Emma Corrin in Miu Miu has been my great disappointment of the evening, it seems that they has been in the wrong century since instead of dressing according to the date, they looked like a pilgrim who recently disembarked from the Mayflower.
