Pero, más allá del proceso necesario para convertirse en progenitora ¿Qué significado alberga el ser madre? Muchas veces, por no decir siempre, desde el momento en que una mujer revela que se encuentra a la espera de sumar un nuevo miembro a su familia, parece que esta se ve obligada a abandonar su identidad para pasar a ser “la madre de…”. Naturalmente, la reacción del círculo más cercano de la mujer siempre se caracterizará por la ilusión y el alborozo, pero aquello que debemos dejar de normalizar es el que un hijo o una hija que todavía ni siquiera ha arribado al seno familiar se convierta en el epicentro existencial de otra persona.

Las opinión pública lleva años bombardeando el mensaje de que una madre que en ciertos se anteponga a sí misma antes que a su hijo la convierte en egoísta, descerebrada o incluso sencillamente cruel; mientras que la manutención emocional de un ser humano requiere de ocupaciones diversas y mantener una buena salud mental es vital para poder llevar a cabo una crianza satisfactoria para ambos.

Me resulta ridículo escuchar el que es un deber imperioso para una mujer embarazada reprimir aquellas emociones que son consideradas erróneamente como “agresivas”, es decir, la ansiedad, la tristeza, la rabia u otras por el estilo porque resultan dañinas para el bienestar del feto, en verdad es inevitable que cualquiera experimente estos sentimientos y por tanto externalizar la apatía es tan imprescindible para mantener el equilibrio emocional como mostrarse alegre cuando nos invade la dicha; es indignante como una vez que se tiene un bebé las mujeres son miradas por encima del hombro por retomar sus puestos laborales; como se tacha de hipocresía el tratar con franqueza las dificultades del día a día como madre; y como estos hay millones de ejemplos más que sacan a la luz la injusta tala de derechos que las mujeres con hijos sufren. No se trata de justificar comportamientos irremisibles como puede ser el uso de drogas durante los nueve meses de embarazo, sino de reconocer aquellos estereotipos y estigmas creados a lo largo de los siglos alrededor de la mujer que la someten a juicios ajenos redundantes.

A estas alturas del artículo, quizá os estéis preguntando qué tiene que ver la célebre cantante Rihanna con todo esto, pues bien (a no ser que viváis bajo una roca) ya sabréis que la creadora de Fenty Beauty está  embarazada de su primer hijo y como cabría esperar esta haciendo de todo menos someterse a las normas establecidas por la sociedad. Toda la ropa pre-mama comparte una característica bastante obvia: el patrón recatado por el que parece haber sido cortada. Muchos se excusaran diciendo que sólo velan por la salud de ambos sujetos, y claro que una mujer embarazada debe ser cauta respecto a su bienestar, pero sólo ella misma puede decretar que es lo que verdaderamente la conviene.

I find it ridiculous to hear that it is a duty for pregnant women to supress those incorrectly named as “agressive” emotions, for instance, anxiety, sadness or fury find themselves amogst them, when in reality everyone will inevitably feel those sooner or later and outsourcing them is just as essential as showing our happiness when bliss comes upon us; it is outrageous how once they have a baby, women are looked down upon for returning to their jobs; how it is accused of hypocrisy to deal frankly with the difficulties of everyday life as a mother; and like these there are millions of other examples that bring to light the unfair violation of rights that women with children suffer. It is not about justifying irremissible behaviors such as the use of drugs during the nine months of pregnancy, but about recognizing those stereotypes and stigmas created over the centuries around women that subject them to redundant judgments of others.
