Somos testigos de como cada día la realidad virtual absorbe nuestra rutina. Prácticamente ya no existe recoveco en el mundo donde la tecnología no haya impuesto su presencia autoritaria, lo cual por un lado se traduce en un favorable incremento de recursos, conocimiento y capacidades, mientras que al mismo tiempo conlleva una peligrosa pérdida de instinto que nos ciega ante repercusiones fatales dejándolas pasar inadvertidas.

Ni tan siquiera los más escépticos pueden negar este hecho, pues allá donde miremos surgen múltiples pruebas que garantizan su veracidad. Dependemos casi absolutamente de los aparatos dogmáticos que dominan nuestro día a día, para levantarnos por las mañanas, sin las alarmas digitales muchos jamás sería capaces de llegar a tiempo a ningún sitio; para escuchar nuestra canción favorita, nos dirigimos instintivamente a nuestro teléfono o cuanto menos a la radio; para evitar el aburrimiento durante una sórdida tarde son muchos los que recurren a su vídeo consola o a la televisión; inclusive ya son muchos los interruptores en los que el polvo se acumula sobre ellos porque sus dueños los han sustituido por un simple “Alexa, encienda la luz del pasillo”.

No diré que es entristecedor, porque en términos generales tendemos a demonizar los cambios cuando la evolución es el único motor de mejora para el ser humano, sin embargo me atrevo a decir que ante las innovaciones cibernéticas hemos renunciado a el beneficio la duda por un confort que más allá de su practicidad resulta dañino. Si Aristóteles levantase cabeza se sentiría ofendido al ver su teoría de la virtud moral tan lúgubremente ignorada, ya que ante pasar una media de seis horas al día pegado al teléfono (exceso), y no contar con dispositivo electrónico alguno (defecto), lo ideal según el régimen aristotélico sería utilizar el móvil cuando sea necesario y buscar otras actividades con las que rellenar los huecos vacíos del día a día (el equilibrio).

De igual modo, los tiempos continúan avanzando imperiosamente y la metamorfosis digital no sólo es una constante sino que su relevancia crece a un ritmo descomunal a la par que la cantidad de aplicaciones que abarca, siendo la última de ellas el Metaverso que ya está causando furor entre la muchedumbre. Su propio nombre da una vaga idea de lo que representa, siendo el prefijo meta- un indicador de trascendencia ampliada, es decir, la magnitud de un “más allá” hasta donde supuestamente está plataforma alcanza; y -verso haciendo referencia a lo que conocemos como entorno de existencia, el universo. Como no podía ser de otro modo la figura tras esta creación es la del fundador de Facebook (rebautizado actualmente como Meta) y aunque el término se patentase hace 30 años bajo el género de ciencia ficción en la novela Snow Crash, ahora abandona su aureola fantasiosa para convertirse en un producto de comercialización descrito como “el universo virtual del futuro”.

El servicio que esta plataforma de interactuación virtual ofrece no más que el de vivir una vida paralela a la terrestre sumergido en la redes del internet, pues una persona a través de su propio avatar puede comprar, explorar, socializar y otras muchas cosas en un ambiente que invoca la cotidianidad en el otro lado de la pantalla. El caso es que si un empresario siempre dispuesto a aumentar su fortuna como Zuckerberg se decide a promover un invento que imita las costumbres humanas y marcas como Nike, Zara o por inverosímil que suene, Carrefour están dispuestas a invertir millones para asegurarse un lugar en el Metaverso, deberíamos preguntarnos las personas si esto es un augurio de que en un futuro cercano tendremos la necesidad de acceder a él simplemente porque el mundo tal y como lo conocemos va a extinguirse para dar paso a una siniestra realidad a la Steven Spielberg.

Por supuesto Louis Vuitton esta a la cabeza con todo un juego bajo su manga en el cual ya no sólo se trata de prendas y caricaturas sino que se ha insertado sibilinamente en el poderoso mercado de compraventa de NFTs.

Así mismo una larga lista de marcas populares han seguido el ejemplo de las tres anteriores, entre las cuales entran Maison Margiela, Adidas, Jil Sander, Diesel, Burberry y Ralph Lauren. ¿Es esto una llamada de atención o una tendencia que perderá vehemencia con los años? No se vosotros pero creo que debería empezar a leerme el manual de partida del Metaverso… ¡Por si las moscas!
