“Si quieres las cosas bien hechas, debes hacerla tú mismo.” Este es el lema que impulso a Heidine Jiline Sander desde su temprana juventud a buscar la perfección desde una estética basada en el orden y la belleza armónica.

Nacida en 1943, se crio en la Alemania de la posguerra, donde a pesar de la brutal escasez que atropellaba diariamente a la población, la pequeña Sander anteponía la pulcritud al hambre, y es que si el pan que se le ponía sobre la mesa no estaba cortado simétricamente y presentado exquisitamente, se negaba a comerlo. Años más tarde, al llegar a su país natal el milagro económico numerosos artilugios cargados tanto con eléctrico o con innovación hicieron un fuerte acto de presencia en el mercado alemán. No obstante, todavía había poca oferta para los consumidores de algo igualmente necesario y de lo que la mundialmente conocida Jil Sander rebosaba: estilo.

Se matriculó en la escuela de ingeniería de Krefeld cursando la carrera de estudio textil y en 1965 tras haber completado sus estudios, se introdujo en el sector de la moda como redactora de las revistas Constanze y Petra. Aunque fue poco el tiempo que tardó en redirigir sus ambiciones hacia un puesto con el que poder manipular con mayor facilidad la industria.

De modo que, con sus ideas claras y unos ahorros que obtuvo de una colección diseñada para un consorcio químico de fibras sintéticas, creó su primera línea de indumentaria propia. En cuestión de días su éxito alcanzó un estadio monumental ya que la novedad que acompañaban a su boutique de color negro y sus prendas de alta costura francesa importadas jamás habían sido vistas en Alemania hasta la llegada de la joven diseñadora de veinticinco años.

Jil tenía sus objetivos marcados con tanta firmeza como sus gustos, ella confeccionaba piezas que se convertirían en los mejores aliados de mujeres seguras de sí mismas. De este modo, hizo uso de su amplio conocimiento textil admitiendo únicamente para sus modelos las telas más primorosas cortadas de las formas más precisas, con el fin de garantizar a su clientela atuendos tan vigorosos como la actitud de su creadora.

Y resultó ser cierto que uno recoge lo que siembra, porque el trabajo continuo y el esmero constante que demostró la alemana dio como fruto un verdadero antes y después en la historia del traje femenino. Mujer que vestía bajo una etiqueta Jil Sander, mujer que se sentía empoderada, invencible, irrevocable e  inigualable, pues la preocupación de parecer “vieja” al mostrar sus arrugas o estupida al cometer un error se disipaba gracias a esas enigmáticas puntadas.

Sin embargo, pese a su intachable brillantez, su primera exposición en la capital francesa fue un fracaso estrepitoso que reprimió a la modista de internarlo nuevamente hasta más de una década después, cuando en 1988 por fin recibió la ovación que se merecía tras su segundo desfile en Paris. Sus mantras de “Un vestido es perfecto cuando ya no se le puede quitar nada más” y “Ética y estética no se pueden separar” le sirvieron de motor para generar tendencias minimalistas, prácticas, lujosas y elegantes hasta que tras atravesar un difícil periodo de su vida, Sander se vio obligada a vender un 75% de sus acciones al consorcio italiano Prada.

Pero a nuestra protagonista todavía le quedaba tinta en el tintero. La suficiente como para asombrar al mundo entero con una inesperada colaboración económica con la marca japonesa Uniqlo, y retomar las riendas de la casa de costura que llevaba su nombre hacia 44 años en 2012 aunque fuese únicamente durante un año, pues en 2013 se retiró definitivamente de su puesto como directora creativa.

Aunque de que el ingenio de esta gran mujer siempre se inclinase hacia valores más etéreos que rebeldes, considerarla una potencia conservadurista sería ilegítimo ya que debemos tomarla como la heroína de la silueta y el confort de la silueta femenina que en verdad fue.

And it turned out to be true that you reap what you sow, because the continuous work and constant dedication that the German woman demonstrated yielded a true before and after in the history of women's clothing.
