Viernes 13… ¿O mejor dicho lunes 13?:

Tras la pasada Met Gala incluso aquellos que no creían en las habituales supersticiones a cerca de los viernes y/o martes 13, han adoptado un respeto digno de brujería hacia los lunes caídos en el decimotercer día del mes. Honestamente ¿Quién no estaría aterrorizado tras el gran fiasco que ha resultado ser el esperado evento? Y es que es menos doloroso adjuntar este fracaso a las fuerzas superiores que enfrentarnos a la realidad de haber sido fallados por la industria de la moda cuando más la necesitábamos.

Volcándonos en una síntesis objetiva de la velada, el primer factor causante de la catástrofe estilística que debemos tomar en cuenta es la pésima elección de temática: “la moda en los Estados Unidos.” Es completamente cierto no es la primera vez que el tópico seleccionado hace referencia a la indumentaria típica de un país concreto, como fue el caso en 2015 con China.

Sin embargo, en este caso ha resultado ser un evidente grito de auxilio por parte de las fuerzas políticas que ha denigrado la esencia neutral y festiva de la celebración, tras los sucesos discriminatorios ocurridos en EEUU desde la última Met Gala como han sido, la muerte de George Floyd o los múltiples ataques tanto verbales como físicos racistas contra personas de origen oriental al ser acusados de “transmitir” el covid.

Los intentos por acallar las denuncias por comportamientos como los previamente mencionados por parte de altos cargos parecen haberse extendido hasta Andrew Bolton (conservador principal del museo). En la entrevista concedida por el curador a Vogue, describe la nación estadounidense como una colcha formada por distintos partes que abarcan todas las diversidades o un caldero donde hierven personas de todos los tipos y clases unánimemente, y si bien es cierto que el país posee un 15’42% del porcentaje total de inmigrantes mundiales también lo son las numerosas evidencias de marginación social debido a sus religiones, color, género o sexualidad.

Resumiendo, creo que ha sido un terrible error cruzar la línea mediática con un tema tan polémico en tiempos tan caóticos como el actual, para un evento en el que se debe prestar atención únicamente a la creación de atavíos y el arte que esto constituye.

El siguiente punto que debemos enumerar que ha contribuido a esta estrepitosa decepción ha sido la injustificada falta de imaginación por parte de los diseñadores, les daré un voto de apoyo al afirmar que el tema además de inapropiado era inflexible pero no inaprovechable.

Por supuesto que es innegable que hemos observado atuendos realmente hermosos pero reprochables ya que algunos no estaban a la altura de la Met Gala, unos carecían de conexión con la materia y otros simplemente dejaban mucho que desear en todos los aspectos.

Para hacer una demostración más práctica de mi opinión sobre los conjuntos expuestos en la alfombra blanca, he seleccionado tres celebridades que de seguro conoceréis sobre cuyo ropaje voy a dar un estudio subjetivo. 

En primer lugar tenemos a la mayor de los hermanos Hadid, Gigi; quien lució un estilismo de Prada compuesto por un top , guantes y medias negras acompañados por un vestido superpuesto al primero de estilo bustier en color crema y un corte lateral izquierdo. La modelo estaba despampanante pero mis objeciones surgen de una insatisfacción motivada por la falta de sustancia en el traje, ya que a parte del hecho de haber sido confeccionado por una marca de origen americano no encuentro ningún otro punto de enlace con el tema de la velada, junto a que inevitablemente por el debut de su nuevo ardiente cabello en el desfile greco de Versace me creé expectativas que no se han visto cumplidas a cerca de un ajuar que lo complementase y le sacara partido (aunque he de reconocer que esto último probablemente es un problema mío).

Versace 2021

Continuamos con Kendall Jenner, quien optó por un deslumbrante vestido naked (tendencia que destacó en el acontecimiento) y embellecido con cristales de Givenchy; este presenta mayor vínculo con la indumentaria de los Estados Unidos ya que está inspirado en la mundialmente conocida actriz estadounidense Audrey Hepburn en su película My fair lady; pero no obstante a que una vez descubrí el significado tras este atuendo todo encajó mucho mejor, he de decir que si no hubiese investigado al respecto no habría ligado la conexión entre ambos vestidos además de que este es un caso en el que me parece escasa el impacto de la prenda como para ser lucida “los Oscars de la moda”. Personalmente yo habría optado por hacer una Oda a la actriz a través del icónico vestido negro y perlas de Desayuno con diamantes añadiéndole un giro modernizado al cambiar el corte de este y evidentemente accesorizarlo con el bolso “croissant” de Moschino.

Por último, para arrojar algo de luz sobre esta aplastante crítica he seleccionado como mi última referencia a Timotheé Chalamet ya que el actor no sólo estuvo a la altura de su puesto como coordinador del evento sino que sobresalió por el ingenio del conjunto entre las zapatillas estadounidenses por excelencia: las converse Chuck 70 Classic High Top, unos pantalones de chándal que hacían referencia a la historia de la moda norteamericana de la cual procede el sportswear y un frac (Haider Ackermann) con camisa de cuello alto (Rick Owens) que se remontan a los viejos cafés de Tuxedo Park en Nueva York, donde los fumadores hacían uso de dichas chaquetas de traje para amortizar el fuerte olor a tabaco sobre su ropa.

After the last Met Gala, even those who did not believe in the usual superstitions around Friday and/ or Tuesday the 13th, have adopted a respect worthy of witchcraft towards the Mondays fallen on the thirteenth day of the month. Honestly, who wouldn't be terrified after the great fiasco that the long-awaited event has resulted? And it is that it is less painful to attach this failure to superior forces than to face the reality of having been failed by the fashion industry when we needed it the most.

Turning to an objective synthesis of the evening, the first factor cause of the stylistic catastrophe that we must take into account is the terrible choice of theme: "American Fashion." It is completely true that it has not been the first time that the selected topic refers to the typical clothing of a specific country, as was the case in 2015 with China.

However, in this case it has turned out to be an evident cry for help from the political forces that has denigrated the neutral and festive essence of the celebration, after the discriminatory events that occurred in the US since the last Met Gala, such as the death of George Floyd or the multiple racist verbal and physical attacks against asian people accused of “transmitting” the covid.

It seems the attempts to silence the complaints of behaviors such as those previously mentioned by high officials have extended to Andrew Bolton (main curator of the museum). In an interview given by the curator to Vogue, he describes the American nation as a quilt made up of different parts that encompass all diversities, or a cauldron where people of all types and classes boil unanimously, and while it is true that the country has a 15.42% of the percentage of world immigrants; the numerous evidences of social marginalization due to their religions, color, gender or sexuality are a reality as well.

Summarizing, I think it was a terrible mistake to cross the media line with such a controversial topic in times as chaotic as the present for an event in which attention should only be paid to the creation of attire and the art that this constitutes.

The next point that we must list that has contributed to this resounding disappointment has been the unjustified lack of imagination of the designers, I will give them a vote of support by stating that the theme was not only innapropiate but also inflexible although not unusable.

To make a more practical demonstration of my opinion on the outfits displayed on the white carpet, I have selected three celebrities that you will surely know on whose clothing I am going to give a subjective study. 

First we have the oldest of the Hadid siblings, Gigi; who wore a Prada styling consisting of a black top, gloves and stockings accompanied by a bustier-style dress superimposed on the first item in a cream color and with a left side cut. The model was stunning, but my objections arise from a dissatisfaction motivated by the lack of substance in the suit since apart from the fact that it was made by a brand of American origin I do not find any other point of connection with the theme of the evening; together that inevitably, due to the debut of her new fiery hairstyle in the greco Versace fashion show, I gave myself high expectations that have not been fulfilled about a trousseau that would complement it and take advantage of it (although I have to admit that this is probably a my own problem).

We continue with Kendall Jenner, who opted for a dazzling naked dress (a trend that triumphed at the event) embellished with crystals by Givenchy. This one had a greater link to United States’s clothing since it is inspired by the world-renowned American actress Audrey Hepburn in her film My fair lady, eventhough once I discovered the meaning behind this outfit, everything fit much better, I must say that if I hadn’t investigated about it, I would not have linked the two dresses, in addition to the fact that it was somewhat lacking of impact for "The fashion Oscars." Personally, I would have chosen to make an Ode to the actress through the iconic black dress and pearl chocker from Breakfast at Tiffany’s, adding to it a modernized twist by changing the cut of it and evidently accessorizing the look with a Moschino “croissant” bag.

Finally, to shed some light onto al of this overwhelming criticism, I have selected Timotheé Chalamet as my last allusion as the actor not only lived up to his position as co-chair of the event, but also stood out thanks to the ingenuity of the mix between the american sneakers par excellence: the Converse Chuck 70 Classic High Top, a pair of sweatpants that refer to the history of North American fashion from which sportswear comes and a tailcoat (Haider Ackermann) paired with a high-neck shirt (Rick Owens) that goes back to the old cafes of Tuxedo Park in New York, where smokers made use of said jackets to amortize the strong smell of tobacco on their clothes.
