No pierdas la cabeza al ver estos vestidos:

A día de hoy el ardoroso odio prendido por la población francesa revolucionaria en el siglo XVIII hacia su entonces soberana, María Antonieta, sigue en cierta medida encendido. Aquellos que no se han informado dignamente y tratado de empatizar con su singular situación, asegurarán como veraces mitos como la célebre frase “que coman pasteles” y tendrán en mente una imagen de la reina en la que esta es la absoluta antagonista del levantamiento nacional de 1789.

Sin embargo, (aunque no exenta de culpa) lo que verdaderamente fue el opio del pueblo resultó ser el radicalismo que brotó de la semilla de la escasez. Lo que empezó siendo una evidente e irrefutable necesidad de cambio, escaló rápidamente hasta culminar en una masacre injustificable.

Si bien es cierto que el derroche de “Madame Déficit” (sobrenombre que le fue atribuido por sus prácticas financieras), contribuyó a agravar la ya desproporcionada pobreza de su pueblo, también debemos considerar la difícil posición en la que se encontraba al ser arrancada de todos sus recuerdos, familiares y posesiones de su país natal para ser casada con un desconocido a la temprana edad de 14 años, ser acusada de infertilidad e inutilidad para el sexo durante años por lo que resultó ser un problema genital de su esposo, ser constantemente bombardeada por el hostil trato que recibía en la corte de su palacio y encontrar como único consuelo un estilo de vida fastuoso que le era recriminado por el pueblo y puntualmente por el ministro de economía sin ella entender un ápice la realidad de la situación (puesto que nadie se encomendó a la tarea de abrirle los ojos a la verdad).

Teniendo esto en cuenta podemos dar comienzo al análisis a cerca de su legado como primera it-girl de la historia. Su estilo es recordado por aquella pomposidad típica de la época del Rococó en la que se sitúa este personaje, de manera que ver los fruncidos, los lazos, las ornamentaciones con piedras semipreciosas, y otras decoraciones que se encargaban de recargar el vestuario de la reina era cotidiano.

Algunos datos anecdóticos sobre los despilfarros habituados de  María Antonieta son su satirizado amor por el calzado (pues se ha exagerado) ya que aquellos de clase alta se tomaban el lujo de evitar limpiar sus zapatos tirándolos tras un uso, de manera que la reina disponía de cientos de ellos; para cada temporada era preciso confeccionarle un total de 12 trajes de fiesta, 12 vestidos de fantasía y otra docena de ceremonia; y cada mañana se le hacía entrega de un muestrario que contenía piezas de cada una de las telas utilizadas en sus vestidos de manera que pudiese elegir el atuendo más adecuado en función de su agenda diaria.

A pesar de todo, es un error pensar que “la Austriaca” (sobrenombre peyorativo con la que la bautizaron en la corte) no era quien más gastos tenía dentro de la familia real, sino que por lo menos había cuatro miembros que sobrepasaban su cantidad de caprichos. Algunas de las prendas o patrones más distintivos del estilo de nuestra acusada protagonista fueron el corsé, el talle de avispa y el tontillo (estructura sujetada a las caderas que aporta volumen a las faldas y colas que lo recubren), además, por supuesto, de los peinados y las pelucas estrafalarias con tocados extravagantes eran un must.

En la alta curia eclesiástica aquello que su majestad vestía era considerado por las mujeres como un mandamiento que debían imitar y vestir por lo que María Antonieta fue la primera influencer.

Aunque al mismo tiempo ha sido demostrado que ella prefería lucir atuendos más informales por lo que de la mano de la primera diseñadora de alta costura francesa: Rose Bertin, crearon el sencillo vestidito estilo camisa blanco á La Trianon, que terminó por convertirse en el uniforme por excelencia de las mujeres revolucionarias que tanto la detestaban y deseaban su muerte.

Con esta lujosa tragedia en mente no nos debe pillar por sorpresa que Francia haya sido y continúe siendo el epicentro de la moda.

To this day, the burning hatred ignited by the revolutionary French population in the 18th century towards its then sovereign, Marie Antoinette, continues to some extent on. Those who have not informed themselves appropietly and tried to sympathize with her unique situation, will assure as truthful myths such as the famous phrase "let them eat cake" and will have in mind an image of the queen in which she is the absolute antagonist of the national uprising of 1789.

Taking this into account, we can begin to analyze her legacy as the first it-girl in history. Her style is remembered for that typical pomposity of the Rococo era in which this character is situated, so that seeing ruffles, bows, ornamentation with semi-precious stones, and other decorations that were responsible for recharging the queen's wardrobe was very common.

Some anecdotal data about Marie Antoinette's habitual wastefulness are her satirized love of footwear (as it has been exaggerated) since those of the upper class took the luxury of avoiding cleaning their shoes by throwing them away after one use, so the queen had available hundreds of them; for each season it was necessary to make a total of 12 party dresses, 12 fancy dresses and another dozen for ceremony; and every morning she was given a sample book containing pieces of each of the fabrics used in her dresses so that she could choose the most appropriate outfit based on her daily schedule.

In spite of everything, it is a mistake to think that "the Austrian" (a pejorative nickname with which she was baptized in Versaille) was not the one who had the most expenses within the royal family, there were at least four members that exceeded her amount of whims.
