De una granja a la pasarela:

Hemos escuchado demasiadas veces que debemos perseguir nuestros sueños, únicamente para ser cruelmente desilusionados momentos más tarde por comentarios que tachan nuestras metas como objetivos irrealizables, que se limitarán a ser una fuente de fracaso, insatisfacción y en última instancia, infelicidad en nuestras vidas. Pero toda esta palabrería toma un nuevo cariz frente a referentes como Jeremy Scott, quien desde una temprana edad consagró su devoción a la moda y a partir de ahí, no hizo sino escalar hasta la cima de la industria.

Tanto fue a si que a la impresionante edad de catorce años se encomendó a la tarea de aprender francés para facilitar su entrada a los grandes salones parisinos, y tan sólo nueve años después se veía poniendo en práctica todos sus conocimientos exactamente donde deseaba hacerlo.

Pero, no adelantemos acontecimientos, todo comienza cuando un niño nacido en 1974, en Kansas, establece su hogar junto a su familia en una granja de ganado situada en Missouri; es ahí precisamente donde un joven Scott siente la llamada creativa, lo cual desgraciadamente, junto a su sexualidad, fueron motivos de acoso tanto verbal como físico para este. No obstante, si hay algo que se puede sacar en claro de tamaña injusticia es el espíritu batallador del diseñador, quien se repetía de forma continua su mantra sin dejar de llevar la cabeza alta: “no importa, algún día vestiré y seré amigo de Madonna”. Y efectivamente, la cantante de Material Girl ha sido una de las más cercanas inspiraciones de nuestro protagonista, por lo que no es de extrañar el carácter vanguardista de sus creaciones.

En 1996 se graduó de la Escuela de Diseño Pratt en Nueva York, dejando meramente un año más tarde al público extasiado en con la primera colección de su marca epónima. “White Rich Women” evidencia de manera llamativa que a los ojos de un verdadero visionario todo es útil, hasta los accidentes de coche.

Esta presentación fue la que desde el principio le otorgó su reputación como “el último rebelde de la moda” o un “enfant terribles” del paisaje nocturno de la capital francesa, y aunque a primera vista pueda sonar como apelativos peyorativos, no dejan de ser un alago de lo más apropiado. Entre el listado de galardones que le han sido entregados a lo largo de su carrera profesional ponemos enumerar el Venus de la Mode en 1996, el título al mejor diseñador del año en 1997 y el reconocimiento de la CFDA en 1999 como mejor diseñador joven.

 Con esto en mente, el largo repertorio de celebridades con las que Jeremy contaba para su cuarto desfile no resulta, en ningún, caso sorprendente. Por otro lado al trasladarse de nuevo a su país natal, concretamente a LA, dio comienzo a lo que sería una fructífera relación con Adidas que terminaría en su nombramiento como director creativo de esta en 2013, pues a pesar de las complicaciones, Scott se mantuvo fiel a sus principios; como por ejemplo cuando las cadenas decorativas de uno se sus diseños para la marca levantaron controversia por ser inadecuadamente similares a los grilletes propios de la esclavitud, ante lo que el diseñador pidió perdón con humildad, explicó claramente cuáles eran sus verdaderas intenciones y retiró el producto del mercado.

Es posible que a estas alturas del texto el nombre: Jeremy Scott haya empezado a resultarle familiar a alguno de vosotros, esto puede ser porque en entradas previas ha sido nombrado como el director creativo de la casa de alta costura: Moschino, este puesto podría definirse como su trampolín definitivo al paseo de la fama, ya que no sólo ha servido ha servido para poner su nombre en boca de prácticamente toda persona con un mínimo interés por la moda, sino que también ha elevado su estatus gracias al incremento en ventas que ha proporcionado a la firma italiana. Pues si antes esta era concebida como incapaz de adaptarse a la demandas modernas del s. XXI, ahora es considerada como el hogar de los estilismos más eclécticos.

A parte de los imprescindibles guiños a la cultura pop que son considerados la marca de agua Scott, otra de las especialidades favoritas de la marca es la reinvención de logos populares, como los de Barbie o el de McDonalds.

Ante todo las tres cualidades que hacen de estas confecciones un deleite son el humor satírico que presentan, que a pesar de utilizar la ironía abundantemente no traspasan la línea de la indiscreción; los muchos y variopintos métodos que se utilizan para aludir a distintos iconos de renombre al que el propio diseñador rinde culto; y por supuesto, la descontextualización, que sirve de hilo conductor entre los dos conceptos.
